Women of Rockbridge

Lauren Michael Collingwood is from Lexington, Va. and has been studying black and white photography for eleven years. The photographs exhibited here are from an ongoing series featuring local women from Rockbridge County, which was begun in 1998. Her medium and large format work has been included in numerous exhibitions. She has been an employee of Andre’ Studio, Inc. in Lexington since 1993.

Jan K. Downs

Last Frontier

Jan K. Downs was born in Rockbridge County and divides her time between Fairfield and Blacksburg. She is currently working on her third degree, a Bachelor of Fine Art at Virginia Tech. The work included here expresses her concern for the photographic preservation of the diminishing landscapes of the Great West. They were shot over one day in the ever- changing landscape of Alaska. She was inspired to pursue photography over three years ago by longtime friend and fellow photographer Lauren M. Collingwood. Recently she studied photojournalism in Central Europe, traveling in Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech republic. Two on-going projects occupy her eye, an essay on the Eastern shores of Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina, and a project documenting rodeo life and the working cowboy.

James J. Leadbetter

Landscapes

James J. Leadbetter is from Lexington, Va and had been studying black and white photography for 19 years. The images exhibited here were taken in 1994-95 in Southern Virginia with an 8 x 10 Eastman 2D camera. They are part of a collection that was published in the Washington Post Magazine in 1995. His medium and large format work has been included in numerous exhibitions. Jeremy has been an employee of Andre’ Studio, Inc. in Lexington, Va. for 14 Years.
